They matter for players who want household identity, retainer webs, and longer stories on the road toward noble or Shogun-facing prestige. The Clan Ownership Game Pass is currently off-sale, so this guide focuses on the documented workaround—create a clan through the social server and contact Haru or Meiko—plus how clans fit progression. Clan Ownership status

Clans do not automatically grant The Shogunate badge, erase the need for Ryō, or replace etiquette in bathhouse and attendant spaces. Soft power still comes from showing up.

Think of clan life as multipliers on stories you already know how to play:

• Early members still need personal income—Farmer and Merchant loops fund outfits and houses.
• Mid members use service and craft identities (Service roles, artisan path) to make the household feel populated.
• Senior fantasies lean retainer loyalty, warrior duty, and noble patronage—still earned through RP credibility.
• Shogun collision — appointments, revolts (Reign’s End), and ambitionless endings remain badge-level narratives on Badges, not clan menu clicks.

Practical creation checklist (social-server path)

5. Contact Haru or Meiko only with a clear request: clan name intent, members, and roleplay purpose.
6. Do not demand Tedai (手代) powers. That off-sale tester role is unrelated to civilian clan leadership.

• No harassment to force appointments or revolts for badge hunting.
